Experience one of the Great Barrier Reef’s most extraordinary natural events - the annual coral spawning!

For just a few nights each year, corals synchronise their reproduction, releasing millions of tiny bundles of eggs and sperm into the water. These will fertilise, develop into microscopic coral larvae and eventually settle on the reef, beginning the next generation of corals. It’s an incredible glimpse into how the Reef regenerates and renews itself.

Join our experienced local dive guide after dark and witness this spectacular underwater phenomenon firsthand.

What makes this experience even more special? You don’t need a boat. Our unique shore access means we can walk straight from the dive shop to the reef and be underwater in minutes, giving you the rare opportunity to experience coral spawning from the shore.

Coral spawning only happens once a year and the exact timing depends on natural conditions, making this a truly rare and unforgettable dive experience.

Come and witness the Reef creating its next generation.

Pre-requisites:

- This Guided Dive is for experienced divers with recent dive history - you'll need to show at least 20 logged recent dives and a Night Specialty certification (in lieu of that qual - you may show evidence of recently logged night dives)

- If this will be your first ever Night Dive, please enrol in our Night Specialty Course prior to the Coral Spawning period, to prepare yourself with the skills needed for night diving.

- If you’ve been out of diving for 2 years or more, please book a Refresher course prior to the Coral Spawning period.

- A site orientation dive with us is recommended, so we can assess diver readiness, familiarise you with equipment and acquaint you with the site in the daylight hours.

Inclusions:

- Full scuba gear rental, as well as torch rental

- A qualified local professional guide. We dive these sites daily! Nobody knows these sites better!

- Complimentary sausage sizzle, post dive

- EMC 'Environmental Management Charge' for GBRMPA

Bookings:

- Night diving is weather dependent. Refunds will be issued if the weather prevents the activity proceeding.

- Spots are very limited. Therefore full payment upfront is required and this is non-refundable. In the event you cannot attend your booked dive, find yourself a replacement diver and recoup your payment directly from them.

- The coral spawning period is a predicted period. Whilst we do our best to predict accurately, we are unable to guarantee coral spawning sightings on any given night. Mother nature decides!
