Let's celebrate World Oceans Day 2026! Join us for an introduction to Citizen Science right off the shore on Geoffrey Bay. The team at Reef Ecologic will teach you how YOU can contribute to marine science. We'll be learning how to make underwater observations and capture scientific ID photographs. And over a delicious morning tea, we will learn how to log our sightings in a global citizen science database.
1) Snorkelling - available to anyone ages 8+. Snorkellers should be able to swim at least 100m. In water surface support provided
2) Scuba Diving Unguided: this is for divers who regularly dive Geoffrey Bay and are familiar with the site. Unguided divers need to have minimum open water licence , minimum 10 logged dives, recent dive experience and have done an orientation dive at the site previously. Dive buddies cannot be arranged by Pleasure Divers. You need to bring your own dive buddy who also meets the criteria.
3) Scuba Diving Guided: need to have minimum open water licence and recent dive experience (if not dived in the past 2 years a refresher is needed before participation)
Itinerary: Meet at Pleasure Divers at 8.30am. Meet the Reef Ecologic team teaching you how to be a citizen scientist. Collect snorkel hire gear and/ or scuba hire gear. Divide into snorkel group vs dive groups. Receive safety briefing. Walk over to Geoffrey Bay for in-water activities. Return to Pleasure Divers for morning tea, iNaturalist logging and debrief. Conclude 12.30pm
Tickets: $50 per person. *Students use discount code BLITZ26 to receive half price. Present student ID on the day. Ticket price includes GBRMPA EMC, morning tea, logistical support from Pleasure Divers (briefings, guides, in-water support). Gear hire is additional.
Participants Should Bring:
- Swimwear, towel, sun protection, shoes
- Any of your own snorkel or dive gear - hire what you don't have
- All scuba divers must bring certification card
- Your own waterproof camera or GoPro (waterproof phone cases available to buy or underwater cameras available to rent)
To book rental gear: when booking your ticket, in the Special Requirements field, please write your camera hire and snorkel/ dive gear hire requirements (include sizes) . Rental can be paid on the day. See price list below

Cancellation: Ticket is non-refundable within 5 days of the event. If you are unable to attend last minute, you may arrange another participant to take your ticket. Contact Pleasure Divers to organise the name change.
